Intergrating new knowledge as a tool for professional development

From 1st October 2007

Trailing – using a starting point of interest to inform your own database and knowledge of professional practice.

Trail

To follow the traces or scent of, as in hunting; track.

To follow the course taken by; pursue: trail a fugitive.

To extend, grow.

To walk or proceed with.

A marked or beaten path.

An overland route

A mark, trace, course, or path left by a moving body.

The scent of a person or animal.

Something that is drawn along.

Researching – as a professional practice tool:

Galleries – what are the gallery connections, where are they located, what type of artists do they represent? Is this relevant to me? Do I want to circulate this info – is it useful to someone else (myspace/ facebook/ blog)

Organisations – what connections has this artist made with institutions

Web resources – on your search what else is relevant to you? Do this trail work to inform your practice. What can you find that adds to the development of a sound knowledge base over the coming years.

The orientation of the artist – what movements, agency, orientation, theoretical and geographically are of interest.

Ways of storing and retrieving information – we will build on this.
